$2 (American Book & Printing Company)

On 19 November 1913 Huerta authorised banks to issue notes in $1 and $2 denominations.

On 10 January 1914 the Banco Minero asked the American Bank Note company for a price for 100,000 $2 notes (among other denominations)ABNC. On 13 January the ABNC replied, stating that as the $2 would be a new issue, it would take time to do the engraving and prepare the necessary platesABNC so the next day the bank told them to go ahead with the rest of the order but not the two pesos noteABNC, letter 14 January 1914.

They therefore went to the American Book and Printing Company, in Mexico City. The American Book and Printing Company, with a capital investment of almost half a million pesos and over two hundred workers, half of them women and children working as binders, was one of the largest printing companies in the country but it had no experience in printing currency. However, during this period, it not only produced this Banco Minero note but also produced $1 and $2 notes for the Banco de Coahuila ($1 and $2), Banco del Estado de México ($1 and $2), Banco Oriental de México ($1 and $2), Banco de Querétaro ($1 and $2), Banco de San Luis Potosí ($1 and $2) and a $1 note for the Banco Peninsular Mexicano. It also produced $5 and $10 proofs for the Banco Oriental de México.

The American Book and Printing Company made use of the vignette of the bank's main offices in Chihuahua that the American Bank Note Company had prepared in 1908, but with the addition of the wording "BANCO MINERO' on the fascias.

Counterfeits

Since the Banco Minero used a local, less competent printer these notes lack the expertise and the security features of the ABNC issues and were more easily counterfeited. This poor attempt, as well as its inferior quality, carries the wrong control code.
